Our February speaker was Alexandra Gallardo-Rooker, vice chair of the California Democratic Party and super delegate to the DNC. Born in Mexico City and a graduate of Cypress College, Ms. Alexandra Gallardo-Rooker explained how she started in politics by volunteering locally; making phone calls and walking precincts, literally learning party politics from the ground up, while ever rising to more important duties until becoming a senior leader in the California Democratic Party and Democratic National Committee (DNC).
Jessica Hayes, recently elected Chair of the San Diego County Democratic Party, spoke to us about the rise in activism in the County recently, the importance being active and identifying potential candidates for the Fallbrook Elementary and High School Boards and the Water District Board. She urged our Club to consider what resolutions we would like to have the County Party adopt and to get behind potential candidates, volunteering to help elect them in 2018. When asked, three members of our club expressed a strong interest in becoming candidates next year. We still need more.
Joy Frew, our Fallbrook Club Political Action Committee Chair briefly spoke about her committee’s actions and plans. She is seeking more volunteers for her committee. Joy can be reached at firstname.lastname@example.org
