The Lilac Fire interfered with our speakers’ plans.  Highway closures were preventing routine travel in and out of Fallbrook.

However, since many of us had prepared food for a scheduled potluck, we went ahead and held the potluck oat the Hilltop Center, a safe location.  We had a quorum, and a brief business meeting was held during the meal.  We loaded two tables with our food items, which was a lot of food for the 20 of us who attended.

We collected for the previously scheduled Food drive to benefit the Fallbrook Food Pantry.  Two boxes of nonperishable food was collected and later delivered to the Food Pantry.

Kathy Rallings and the health care topic have been re-scheduled for our February 1st meeting.

Genevieve Jones-Wright candidate for County District Attorney, and Esther Sanchez, candidate for Board of Supervisors have both agreed to reschedule to a future meeting.  They both expressed concern for our well-being.

  • Membership: holds steady at 147 members. No new members tonight as the Lilac Fire and road closures have kept many people away.
      Renewals:  It is time for members to renew for 2018. Our $10 annual dues are the lowest of the County Dem Clubs because we want membership to be within reach of everyone.  At that, dues are the Club’s main source of income to pay Club expenses over the year.
  • Christmas Parade: was held this past Saturday evening Dec 2 . Fallbrook Club members marched with our banners up Main Street in the Chamber of Commerce Christmas parade. Pictures are on our Facebook Page.  It was a positive event. Thank you to Mark and Cynthia for driving us to/from the parade route.  Volunteers helped at the Hilltop for the post parade gathering.  Thanks to two generous sponsors who donated to cover our parade costs.
  • Club Elections: According to our bylaws, in January 2018 we vote for Club officers; this year, it is Vice President, Secretary, and Political Action Chair.

Nominating Committee had a meeting last month and recommended a slate for the January election:  Tom announced the nominee names of those who have agreed to run on this slate;
Vice President:  Frieda Whipple
Secretary: Drew Tippin
Political Action Chair: Michele McCaffery

Nominations will be accepted from the floor on January 4th.  You must be a member in good standing to vote.  Renew your membership now!

Discussion:  Reverend Guy Williams, pastor of the Hilltop Center For Spiritual Living, and a visitor tonight asked us a question.  What, if anything, do we offer the Hispanic community to draw them to the Democratic Club?  We had a free discussion around the tables as the potluck dinner continued.

Next Meeting:  January 4th  2018.
        Event: Club elections Discussion: 2018 Elections  & 2018 Goals.

Adjourned:  7:45pm  Meeting broke up early as we heard news of additional evacuation orders and road closures.
